What To Bring
Nicaragua has a tropical climate and it is important that you come prepared for the sun and heat. A hat, sunglasses, lots of sunscreen and light clothing are recommended. Bathing suits, tee shirts, board shorts and flip flops are the standard dress at the beach. Shorts and tees are probably all you’ll need for other activities. If you plan to take an excursion to one of the high elevation volcanoes, then you’ll want to take a rain jacket and some jeans. Hiking boots are also a good idea if you plan to do some nature watching or hiking while in Nicaragua.
The tropical weather requires that you stay hydrated by drinking lots of fluids, especially water. Water at Casa Amarilla is provided by a community deep well system and is drinkable but our guests are provided with bottled water for drinking to be on the safe side. Beer and other adult beverages tend to dehydrate the body so it’s important to drink lots of juices and water to counterbalance the effects of the dehydrating effects of alcohol.
Bugs and, especially mosquitoes, are plentiful during the rainy season when you are outside the home. We recommend that guests bring insect repellent. Insect repellents with at least 25% DEET are best.
If you take any medicines, then pack with you on your trip. The closest pharmacies are about a one hour drive from Gigante. And you may not find a specific medicine that you have been prescribed in the US or Europe.
Your trip will be much more enjoyable if you plan to take items that make life comfortable in a tropical climate.
